My Favourite Locations
Listed below are a few of my favourite locations.
RSPB MINSMERE - A great reserve with year round interest, including Red and Munjack Deer, Bittern, Marsh Harrier, Little Owl, Bearded Tit, the list goes on and on.
RSPB RAINHAM MARSHES – Peregrine, Kingfishers, invertebrates, Water Voles a growing list of rarities and a very good shop and café.
LEE VALLEY – A huge area of various habitats, highlights include Kingfishers, Water Rail and
Banded Demoiselles and wintering Bittern.
TWO TREE ISLAND – A small Essex Wildlife Trust reserve good for Avocets, Little Egrets and thousands of wintering Brent Geese.
BENFLEET DOWNS – Very local to me great for spring migrants and various Butterflies.
ISLE OF MULL – One of the best places in UK, White Tailed and Golden Eagles, Otters, Deer, great for Cetaceans and plenty of weather.
THE NEW FOREST - A wonderful place Redstarts, Ponies, Goshawk, Dartford Warbler,
Bullfinch, a reliable place for Mandarin Duck and of course Deer.
HOCKLEY WOODS – Great in winter for Hawfinch, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker,
BROWNSEA ISLAND – Peace quiet Red Squirrels, Spoonbill and more.
THE NORFOLK BROADS – Chinese Water Deer, Wildfowl, Marsh Harriers, Bittern.
Hickling Broad for Common Crane and huge numbers of Marsh Harriers.
YALA NATIONAL PARK SRI LANKA – Leopards, Sloth Bear, Mugger Crocodiles, Samba and Spotted Deer and many many bird species including Pied Kingfisher Lesser Adjutant, red and yellow wattled Lapwing, Black Necked Stork, Indian Roller to name a few. Absolutely magical.
DUNGENESS – A strange landscape but a popular stop off point for spring and autumn migrants the RSPB site excellent for Tree Sparrow and wintering Bittern
APPLECROSS - A secluded Scottish location not the easiest to get to but worth it Pine Martin, Eider Duck, Divers, Otters and spectacular scenery.
MY BACK GARDEN - Badgers, Foxes, Woodpeckers, Grey Squirrels, Wood Mice, Finches, Jay and Woodpeckers.
BORNEO DANAM VALLEY AND KINABATANGAN RIVER - Orang-utan, Proboscis Monkey, Water Monitor Lizards the place were I caught the wildlife photography bug !
